In a mad rush, I received a call from the BBC Look East news team wanting to come in to chat to me - immediately. Catching wind of a special shoe I had just finished making for The Bridewell Museum.
The museum is holding a pop up event all this month in celebration of Norwich's historic shoe trade. The exhibit features shoes created by a cross section of women, with a special Milly J shoe sculpture which will be permanently housed in the Bridewell shoe section.
If you've not visited the museum, it has a magnificent room dedicated to John Newstead, a local pharmacist who received an MBE for his services to the pharmaceutical trade. Collections of quaint and curious artefacts from the Victorian era fill jars and shelves and my - it is a sight to behold! Inspired by this, the shoe scuplture created was in homage to this.
I will reveal the shoe properly soon.

Milly J Shoes opened its doors to a group of refugee woman from across the globe. Working together with English + and The Museums of Norwich, Milly J Shoes hosted a shoe clip making workshop, Bringing the historic footwear element Norwich once housed back to its heart. A wonderful morning and afternoon creating embellishments for a special reveal that will become apparent soon!

If I could go back to a day last week that I felt inspired by, it'd certainly be last Friday. Together with English + and The Bridewell Musuem, Milly J Shoes opened its doors to a group of refugee women. Women from Bulgaria, China, Syria and beyond came together in the shop for a Milly J talk. Speaking about how I have faced stereotyping, but how I use this to my advantage. But, they in actual fact inspired me!
I look forward to welcoming more groups in November for shoe workshops.
*Apologies, the photo insists on being upside!

I'd like to say a big thank you to Norwich's, Bridewell Museum for inviting me after hours to "snoop" around the collectiions and archives for inspiration purposes.
The Bridewell, who has an extensive Norwich Shoe collection has invited me to create an exclusive shoe for their collection! However, there is indeed more to this story. Stay tuned for more!

As a local Norwich lady, Milly J Shoes is very pleased to have been invited by one of the county's leading museums to create an exclusive shoe for their collection. The Bridewell Museum has an impressive shoe section which houses many of the areas leading footwear brands. Norwich of course was once known as one of the footwear capitals. So, to bring a shoe into the 21st century for them is a real pleasure!
